I hope everyone had a great past week! I was lucky to have the entire week off from work. I headed to Long Beach Island, NJ with the boy and some friends. We had a great time. Lighthouses, dolphins, drinks and great company. It was the perfect send off to summer. Now, onto my favorite season… cue September.

What is the most important room in your house? I would argue the kitchen usually, but lately I have been thinking a lot about bedrooms. They are the place you go to escape, relax, and recharge. I have always wanted to try painting my walls grey. I think the versatility the color brings is so great. I would love to decorate my bedroom with grey, blue and white. I just think the color combo is awesome.

Picture this - Grey walls with an all white bed in the center of the room. The bed would have a BIG fluffy duvet that you could just fall into, with one deep blue accent pillow for that much needed splash of color. How do you relax after a stressful day? This week has been especially stressful and I have just wanted to unwind when I get home. I find that the best way to get myself in the mindset of relaxation is to do something physical. It feels great to get your body moving after a long day behind a desk. I typically go running, but recently went kayaking and loved the serenity of it. Not to mention the great arm work out! Hello Cameron Diaz arms. And I can’t forget about my wine. I do love a good glass of red to go with the latest fashion mag! So here’s to a the time we take for ourselves. We deserve it!

The weather this weekend was so beautiful - sunny, breezy and not too hot. It was a nice break from the stifling heat we’ve had all summer. It got me excited for my favorite season, Fall! I love the colors, the weather, the football and of course the food, (braut’s anyone?) I especially can’t wait to switch out my closet and pick up a few of those fall must haves. One of the items I have already gotten my hands on are these boots by REPORT. They will go perfectly with my black shift dress and a colorful light weight scarf. Hurry up and get here Fall!

“Research suggests that your phone can be dirtier than a toilet seat” - Well-Kept.

Firstly, EW. Secondly, does anyone else get SUPER annoyed with smudge marks on their phones? I know I do. Even though I just got a touch screen, those little fingerprint and makeup smudges have already started to bug me. PLUS if you can see the dirt, imagine how much more grossness there is that you can’t see. It’s the freaking weekend! Friday’s are just so sweet. I thought I’d whip up a couple of these babies I found on my favorite recipe site, MyRecipes, tonight to enjoy it a little more.. Enjoy your weekend!

Blackberry Bliss

Ingredients

· 1 (0.75-oz.) package fresh mint sprigs

· 12 (1/4-inch-thick) cucumber slices

· 2 (6-oz.) packages fresh blackberries

· 3/4 cup fresh lime juice (about 3 limes)

· 8 to 12 tsp. turbinado sugar*

· 1 cup plus 2 Tbsp. gin

· 1 cup cold club soda

· Crushed ice

* Super fine or powdered sugar will work too

Preparation

Place first 5 ingredients in a large pitcher. Gently press mint leaves, cucumbers, and blackberries against side of pitcher with a wooden spoon to release flavors. Stir in gin and club soda. Serve over ice. Garnish, if desired.

BrewFest – Harrisburg Style

This past weekend, I had the pleasure of attending a really cool and unique event. It was a Beer Fest – potluck style. Now, that may sound weird, but it was probably one of the most interesting parties I’ve been to!

How it worked – Everyone attending was asked to bring a dish and a cooler filled with a beer of their choice. Now, you didn’t get your average Miller, Bud and Coors light. No no, these coolers were filled with exotic and interesting beers from all over the country and the world. Towards the end of the event everyone took ballots and voted on various categories – best overall, best label art, worst beer, etc. They had live music, tons of food and plenty of great people. It was the 5^th annual event, so most people either had been there before or knew how it worked. I wish I had more pictures, but I was just having too much fun to worry about that. It’s such a cool idea I think I’ll have to copy it sometime J

I travel A LOT, and when I say a lot, I mean it - At least every other weekend. Traveling can be super fun, but can also cause a serious lack of style sensibility. I find myself feeling lazy and disorganized when it comes to packing. Since I love fashion and putting outfits together, this can be a problem, which is why I came up with these 5 packing stand bys. When getting ready to zip up my weekend wardrobe, I make sure to check off every single one of them, that way I know I’m ready for whatever Saturday and Sunday may bring..

1. Pack at least 1 tried and true option

*If you end up hating everything you brought, you have at least 1 thing you know you love and looks great!

2. Accessorize!

*Jewelry and scarves are great options to spice up any outfit, and they are very easy to stuff into your bag.

3. Pick a color

*Choose one pair of shoes or handbag and build your outfits around it. This way, you don’t have 4 different pairs of shoes taking up room.

4. Plan out your outfits

*It may take up a little extra time, but you’ll be happy when you don’t have 6 shirts and no pants. You can even try them on to make sure you like them!

5. Choose the travel size

*Toiletries are usually the items that take up the most room in my suitcase. Instead of bringing your full size gallon shampoo, opt for the travel size to save room. Now, I have 3 Henri Bendel bags (with cute little images to denote what goes inside) that I use for all of my essentials.

I find that flowers are the one thing that can make me smile no matter what kind of mood I’m in. That’s why I love to keep them around the house all the time.

Wild flowers have been popping up more and more in my home. I love the unplanned, unarranged beauty in them. Each one is unique but they somehow pair perfectly together. A lot like certain things in life I guess!

This past Friday I had the pleasure of checking out Nostos, a Mediterranean restaurant in Tyson’s, for my birthday dinner with Boyfriend. It is actually just Greek, and just delicious…

First Course - We started off with the Tzatziki dip and the Imam Baildi - Which is one of the vegetarian Mezedes, a Greek style of tapas. Both were outstanding. The flavors in the Tzaztiki were perfectly combined to create a delicious lemony - cucumber spread that went perfectly with the warm seasoned pita bread. The Imam, which was baby eggplant with a tomato, pine nut, raison spread was perfectly paired as well. It was served cold, which we were both surprised by at first, but found to be the perfect dish to wet our appetites.

Second Course - The interesting thing about Nostos is that they do not have every dish they list on their menu every night. Availability and freshness dictate which dishes will be available each night. Some people may find this annoying, but I thought it was perfect. You know you’re getting the freshest possible dish and you’re choices and narrowed down for you! We decided on the Seabass and the Braised Lamb Shank. Both were incredible. The Seabass was broiled to perfection with just a hint of lemon juice, olive oil and pepper. Just the way I like my fish. It was paired with a spinach rice pilaf that was both moist and flavorful. The Lamb shank was probably the best I’ve ever had. The braising left it moist and falling of the bone, with an amazing flavor that included a hint of cinnamon. SO GOOD.

Wine - Tetramythos, Merlot – medium bodied, dry, aromas of blackberries and cherries. A happy medium that went well with both the lamb and the fish.

I was thoroughly impressed with Nostos. I left feeling satisfied but not feeling like I was going to pop. The dishes were fresh, simply flavored and extremely delicious. Nostos is a shining example of how I like to eat, will definitely be back again!

I am sad to say that this will be my last weekend in NYC. I will be sad to leave, but excited for new beginnings :)

One of my best friends will be arriving first thing tomorrow am to help me say goodbye. It will be a weekend full of classic New York brunching, lunching and broadway shows. Maybe a little Broboken too. Let’s get the champagne flowing!

Valentine’s Day = Flowers

Whoever says they don’t like flowers is lying. Flowers are great. They smell good, look pretty, and generally make people feel good. I LOVE flowers. I like to keep fresh cut flowers in my apartment all the time. I feel it gives the space a more home-y touch. And who doesn’t want a home-y home. People always ask me who gave them to me. Umm, ME!
